Northern Flicker

Today we saw a Northern Flicker in the backyard and I have not been so excited about wildlife since the time I was nearly viciously attacked by a kitchen mouse. We identified it by using this neat tool called WhatBird.
We're both really excited about the return of the backyard birds. It was so much fun to watch them squabble and claim territory last year. If the Flicker stays, having a new player will be interesting.

Oh, boy. We have plenty of flickers, and they love to perch on our chimney and peck at the metal. It actually sounds like a jackhammer, and they like to do it around, oh, 7am. Hopefully you don't have a metal top on your chimney! :)

VERY cool! We had a pair build a nest in our dying crabapple tree last spring... I was hoping they would come back, but I haven't seen them.

We've gotten into birds, feeding them at any rate, where we house sit.(you, Larua and your mom were here some years back) Now where to put the feeders at the marina.
Hope you had a wonderful birthday.

I'm so excited you're back! I've been anxiously awaiting the rest of the room re-do!

Hey girl! How is the house coming? I pretty much ignored mine this winter, but now I'm getting the bug. This weekend I'm painting the upstairs hallway while Jason finishes that damn mudroom shelf. What are your plans?

I can't believe how many people are flicker veterans! Neat. Ben did say that he heard some hammering action the week that we saw it. Sadly, he seems to have moved on.

Paul - How about a birdhouse on the mast? Do birds get seasick?

Michelle - Haha - I've been anxiously awaiting the completion of that room, too...

Andrea - Howdy, lady! We're slowly coming back from our long hiatus. The house appears to be pissed. :)
