Another conundrum solved! We haven't been able to figure out how to arrange the furniture in the Living Room.
There are lots of windows and a fireplace, we couldn't figure out where the TV should go, nothing fit right, nothing was symmetric.... Ben was having periodic fits over what to do. And then, a miracle! Saturday, just as we were hashing out all kinds of possibilities again, we consulted the recently arrived L.L. Bean Home catalog. They have a whole new line of "Painted Cottage" furniture that is just... well, it's great! Nice simple pieces in great colors at decent prices. AND they have the piece of furniture that we need to solve our Living Room problem. Behold, the Painted Cottage Corner Entertainment Stand:
That even looks like our TV! I am typically and inexplicably not such a fan of corner units. They're so gimmicky. Or something. But this will solve so many issues in that room. We will probably get it in a nice dark green. Sweet.
Also, this weekend we're going to replace our two small armchairs in the Den with a red loveseat. This one, from the same Ikea line as our sofa (Ektorp):

Your living room and ours must have been separated at birth! We have the same problem. I love the cottage corner unit.. right now we're using an old target end table we had but the color is all wrong.. just what I need, another thing to paint!
Oh, and who would have thought LLBean?? Thanks for the tip!
I like that L.L. Bean line -- there are a couple pieces that I covet, but I don't really have the need for them. Very reasonable prices too!
I'm also a fan of that Ektorp stuff, but we don't have an Ikea in Colorado. It makes me want to cry.
Hey! I'm going to Ikea this weekend too (the Chicago one). It will be my first visit, so I'm prepared to be overwhelmed....
I had never heard of L.L.Bean before - they have great stuff. I'm sure I'd buy tons of things if only they had any stores over here...
Howdy from far west texas! Sorry I just had to comment how much I love your foursquare..
I like that corner unit, very nice. Strangely we don't really use our living room all that much. We don't have a tv down there so my wife & I have declared one of the upstairs bedrooms the "tv room". Odd I know.. :)
I used to have an Ektorp Ikea couch in London. They're great but the pillows need to be fluffed almost as soon as you sit on it or else they end up shrinking under the weight of whoever is sitting on them. But still a really compfy couch. I wish we had LL Bean over here.
I was surprised to find furniture from L.L.Bean, too. Anna - until finding this, I knew LL Bean as a great place to buy flannel shirts and canvas tote bags, not Cottage Furniture!
Dulcie - Ben wanted me to tell you that we might as well not live near an Ikea, either - they're never well-stocked! We once drove to Philadelphia for a TV hutch! (But even crap Ikea is better than no Ikea, I guess!)
Andrea - Have fun at Ikea! I bet the Chicago one is awesome.
Howdy, Omar! I've been sneaking over to your blog to admire your foursquare too. You're doing some really great stuff!
Carter Ann - I know exactly what you mean about the slouchy Ektorp cushions.
