Purple
One thing we are certainly grateful for is the abundance of nice plants in the garden. Sure, the previous owners weren't so into things like vacuum cleaners or functional kitchens or energy effiency, but the garden is awesome! It's like the wifey was my psychic garden twin. All of the lovely stuff I've already mentioned is actually blooming! It started with the columbine a week or two ago, followed by the snowball bush, (I'm told it's a slow-growing species, so ours is probably as old as the house!), and this weekend the hot hot pink peonies popped along with two kinds of iris.
Slowly, slowly, I'm cleaning up the flower beds, pruning the trees, uncovering lovely and weird things. The neighbors on either side seem surprised that I'm as into it as I have been. One actually asked me, "So... you know what you're doing, huh?" as I was inside of the larger of the two holly trees, clipping my way out. I really didn't look like it at the time.
We've got big plans for growing things. We picked out some thunbergia, morning glory, and lavender seeds that I planted tonight. I'm not so great with potted things or seeds, but I'm willing to give it a go. The morning glories are for the back patio - there's some cinderblock that needs prettying. I think we'll end up getting a tomato or two, and some herbs like basil, rosemary, dill, parsley, thyme.
